Holy Week - 2019

April 14, 2018
8:30 & 11:00 a.m.

We shout a joyous “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” as we celebrate Jesus's entry into Jerusalem. (See Matthew 21:1-11 NRSV.) The worship service ends on a somber note as we anticipate the events to come during Holy Week.

April 18, 2018
7:00 p.m.

Christ’s commandment given at the Last Supper is that his disciples should love one another. This service marks the night our Lord was betrayed. Childcare available in the library.

April 19, 2018
7:00 p.m.

This beautiful, somber service of traditional music, scripture and prayer commemorates Christ’s death and burial. The people depart in darkness to await the brightness of the Day of Resurrection. Childcare available in the library.

Easter Morning Services at Idlewild

April 21, 2018
8:30 and 11:00 a.m.

Hallelujah! Christ is risen from the dead! The Resurrection is celebrated Easter morning with worship services in the sanctuary at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. The services are identical. Each will be preceded by 15 minutes (8:15 and 10:45, repsectively) of prelude music by a brass quartet, and will feature joyful hymns, anthems and voluntaries accompanied by brass, timpani and organ. There will be communion in both services. Nursery care is available and Children’s Church Continued for PK/JK will be held, but all children are always welcome in worship!

No Sunday school classes. Family-oriented activities will be held in the T.K. Young Room during Sunday school time.

About communion: The invitation to the Lord’s Supper is extended to all who desire to follow Christ, remembering that access to the communion table is not a right conferred upon the worthy, but a privilege given to the undeserving who come in faith, repentance, and love.  Even one who has doubts or whose trust is wavering is invited to the table in order to be assured of God’s love and grace in Christ Jesus.

Community Sunrise Service - 6:45 a.m. @ Levitt Shell

All are invited to a beautiful sunrise service, beginning at 6:45 a.m. at the Levitt Shell in Overton Park. Presented by Evergreen Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, Greater Lewis Missionary Baptist, Idlewild Presbyterian Church, Lindenwood Christian Church, Rhodes College Chaplain's Office, and Trinity United Methodist.

Advent Worship - Sunday Dec 16

CLICK HERE to listen to the children of our Idlewild PK/JK Sunday School and C3 class (3, 4, and 5-year-olds) sharing the Christmas story from the gospel of Luke. Emily Chateau, our Sunday School and C3 leader, spent time after lessons on two Sundays recording the children's voices and then edited the story together. The children were excited to be a part of telling the Christmas story to share with their families and the church. The PK/JK parents received this gift by email today, and we want to share it with our church and friends.

Advent Devotional Booklet & Activity Calendar

Advent devotional booklets and activity calendars will be available at the church November 25. (The First Sunday of Advent is December 2.) The booklets are designed to enrich your experience of the Advent season with daily devotions written by members of the congregation. We hope you will find them meaningful and share them with your friends. The calendar has an activity each day leading to the Nativity of Jesus Christ.
